Lotusphere Monday Recap

Well the first ‘Real’ day of Lotusphere
is wrapping up so time for a quick recap of what i’ve seen and heard…

First of all I’d like to thank everybody
who joined us for the live blog of the Opening General Session. Looking
at the stats for the live blog we had 658 unique readers, we entered in
351 entries in the live blog and received 368 reader comments of which
we published 48. Since the end of the live blog and at the time of this
blog entry the live blog has been replayed over 280 additional times. While
myself and Matt were having some terrible issues with the network the rest
of the team did a great job making sure the stream didn’t go quiet for
all you readers so a special thanks to them is well deserved.  We
know a few IBM people were watching the live blog so hopefully they enjoyed
it and it helps encourage the expansion of the blogger program they are
running this year.

After the OGS I went to a session on
the new and cool stuff in Domino 8.5 and the future. They talked about
XPages, DAOS and ID Vault. The admin side of me is really interested in
both DAOS and IS Vault but the developer side of my persona is really kicking
itself for not playing around with XPages while it was in beta. After this
session and another XPages session that I went to later I can certainly
see the power of XPages and after Lotusphere it’s something myself and
the other developer where I work will need to start putting to full use.
I can already see a few projects in our future being done with XPages.

I also managed to go to the Bill &
Paul show, otherwise known as ‘The 11 Commandments’. This is a new session
for Bill and Paul but along the same lines as the infamous Worst Practices
session it was a fun filled experience at which i was shouted at for having
designer rights in my production environment and Greyhawk was shouted at
for giving them to me. Something tells me my rights on my work domain may
be getting curtailed when I get back next week.

Overall the first day of Lotusphere
has been filled with a lot of information. Make sure your looking at PlanetLotus
to read all the other blogs to get a great grasp of what has been announced
and the different sessions the other bloggers have been to.

Can’t wait to get to Orlando

Lots of snow

Originally uploaded by qtzar

Lotusphere is only days away and it can’t get here any faster for my liking. A cold start to January has seen me shoveling the driveway again and again. Next year I think I will invest in a snow blower.

Tomorrow, however, I’ll be able to escape to the warmer, snow free, climate of Orlando for Lotusphere.

Don’t forget, I’ll be live blogging as many sessions as I can from lotusphere so make sure you keep an eye on this blog for the latest updates, especially during the Opening General Session where there will be a special Live Blog with a few other contributors.

Orlando here we come….

I’m Speedgeeking At Lotusphere 2009

I am pleased to announce that I’ve been
selected as a speaker for the Speedgeeking session at Lotusphere 2009.

I will be giving my 5 minute presentation
in the AppDev track on the topic of developing Global Multilingual Applications.
In the 5 minutes you’ll learn how to create a single database that contains
multiple versions of the same application but in different languages. I’l
also quickly cover the Domino Global Workbench and how that application
can save you a lot of time when creating multilingual applications. If
you work in a global corporation then this is 5 minutes you won’t want
to miss.

Speedgeeking will be help on Tuesday
Jan 20th at 6.00pm in the Dolphin Pacific Hall. It is a fun filled, fast
paced way to learn something new as you move from presenter to presenter.

Well the Lotusphere Opening General Session
is now less then a week away and it is probably the most look forward to
session from the whole of Lotusphere as this is where all the new announcements
are revealed along with demonstrations of the newly released Domino 8.5
and hopefully some future stratigies and roadmaps.

Normally I run a live blog for the OGS
and this year will be no different except it will be very very different
indeed. This years live blog of the OGS is going to be a group effort with
some of your favorite bloggers like
Paul
Mooney
, Matt
White
, Stuart
McIntyre
and The
Turtle
. We will each be covering
different aspects of the OGS and YOU as the reader can even join in by
leaving comments* and answering quick web polls.

The live blog should be available on
all of our blogs, it won’t mater which of our blogs you visit you will
get to see the same live blog session and best of all you won’t need to
wear out your browsers refresh button as this truly is a live blog system.

So if your not able to make it to Lotusphere
or even if your at Lotusphere and want to leave a comment on something
you have heard at the OGS then we look forward to having you join us for
the unofficial Lotusphere OGS live blog.

* Comments will be moderated and only
added to the live blog if relevant.
