Workplace Client Scrapped ?

Last month I found the WorkPlace Beta 2 available for download on the IBM Partner World website. The download contained the new WorkPlace client that had been demo’ed at Lotusphere just a month earlier.

The download, however, disappeared fairly quickly off the site with no explaination and no sign of it returning. Everything has been quiet on the WorkPlace V2 front for the past month and now I know why…

The complete 6.5.1 Family is here

Well it looks like the whole family have arrived. Notes and Domino 6.5.1, QuickPlace 6.5.1, Sametime 6.5.1, Domino.Doc 6.5.1, Domino Workflow 6.5.1 and LEI 6.5.1 and all now available for download from the Business Partner website. I was also impressed to see that the 6.5.1 language packs are also available so early.

I upgraded my SameTime server today to the new version. The upgrade was extremely smooth and I had everything back up and running again after about 15 minutes. The removal of the AOL connector from the SameTime client didn’t effect me in any way as we don’t have the firewall opened to allow connections to the service but I was surprised that it was done, I know of a number of companies that use this to keep in contact with external business partners. Maybe SIP will eventually mature enough to replace this lost functionality.

I also installed Domino.Doc 6.5.1 in my test lab. Just checking it out. Does anybody know how this is licensed? Is it per server or per user? I can see a number of uses for this product in my environment but license costs may knock it on the head fairly quickly which is a pity as there are some definite advantages to using it.

Another Irish Domino Blogger

I’d just like to welcome another new Domino Blogger to the ranks, Paul Mooney over at www.pmooney.net

Paul is a consultant at Blue Wave Technology where I used to work. He is an absolute wizard in the Lotus Domino administration field and this is proven by the fact that he was awarded a ‘Mastery Of Lotus Software’ at the 2004 Lotus Education Day that occured just after Lotusphere. Paul is also expanding his areas of knowledge into WebSphere, DB2 and Lotus Workplace.

So if your looking for some great admin tips, info about products that he’s looking into or even just want to keep up-to-date on what it’s like to be a Lotus Domino consultant in Ireland then check out his site.

Better Domino Web Logging

I’ve just been trying out the ‘Advanced DominoLog’ template up on OpenNTF. This template extends the basic domlog.nsf database to add in a load of views that break down the basic information that is provided by Domino’s web logging module into easy to read areas like By Status Code and By Host and By Browser.

One lovely feature is the addition of an agent that will purge log entries that are over a certain number of days old, so if you run a busy site then you can make sure that database doesn’t get too big too quickly.

This is a really cool template so if your running a Domino based web server and want some better logging then I’d advise you to check it out.
