More on Australian Daylight Savings Time for 2006

Looks like Notes users in Australia are
going to have to be careful when booking entries into their calendars during
the extra week of DST in 2006, even if they have the correct OS patches
installed.  According to this new
TechNote
from IBM any calendar entries set to occur during the extra week of DST
in 2006, but booked prior to the OS patch being applied and any calendar
entries set to occur in future years during the same period but booked
while the OS patch is installed will end up in the wrong timeslot when
the OS patch is installed or removed.

Australian Daylight Savings for 2006

Due to the commonwealth games being held
in Australia, several Australian states including New South Wales, Victoria,
Australian Capital Territory, South Australia and Tasmania, have changed
the Daylight Savings transition end dates to the first Sunday of April
2006 instead of the usual practice of ending on the last Sunday in March.

If your running your Domino server on
Microsoft Windows then you will need to make sure that the
correct
patches
for the OS are installed
as the timezone information is derived from the OS but if your running
a non-windows OS then you will need to tell the Domino server when to end
DST.

This procedure is very simple, just
add in the following notes.ini parameter and restart the server.

DSTlaw= begin_month, begin_week, begin_day,
end_month, end_week, end_day

So for 2006 in you would use DSTLAW=10,-1,1,4,1,1

And before anybody says that DST starts
in April and ends in October and that I have it backwards, remember that
it’s summer down there while it’s winter north of the equator so their
DST is opposite to ours, kind of like how the water flows down the plug
hole in the opposite direction down there also
