More on Australian Daylight Savings Time for 2006

Looks like Notes users in Australia are
going to have to be careful when booking entries into their calendars during
the extra week of DST in 2006, even if they have the correct OS patches
installed.  According to this new
TechNote
from IBM any calendar entries set to occur during the extra week of DST
in 2006, but booked prior to the OS patch being applied and any calendar
entries set to occur in future years during the same period but booked
while the OS patch is installed will end up in the wrong timeslot when
the OS patch is installed or removed.

  1. The experience in Australia in 2006 will be a good test for the bigger test coming in the USA in 2007, when a new law extending Daylight Savings takes effect. According the the US Naval Observatory’s site, http://aa.usno.navy.mil/faq/docs/daylight_time.html, in 2007 daylight time begins on March 11 and ends on November 4. In other words, it starts three weeks earlier and ends a week later than the current OS formulas calculate. Oh what fun!
